Lightening The Load: Stress awareness and reduction.
Stress Workshop (1)
A one day workshop aimed at addressing the causes and effects of stress.
Stress induced problems cause a great deal of illness, unnecessary suffering and even death in industrialised countries. Stress can affect all aspects of our lives including; health, work and relationships.
We can begin to combat the harmful effects of stress by having:
- a clear picture of how stress affects us individually and why
- a set of coping strategies in place which will enable us to manage stress in
- a more appropriate and safe manner.
- information about the harm stress can do.
This workshop aims to address all the above interactively, initially inviting the group, under the guidance of the facilitator, to explore their own ideas about the causes of stress and its impact on their lives.
The second half of the workshop encourages the individual, using the personal information gained earlier, to explore various techniques and skills to 'customise' their own personal coping strategies.
Each participant will receive handouts relevant to the workshop as well as information on the options for self help. The techniques and skills demonstrated will include:
- Stress level self-assessment
- Relaxation techniques
- Breathing exercises
- Visualisation
- Basic time management
Given the time constraints, this workshop can only give an elementary grounding in these techniques. However, the intention is to provide the individual with the basic tools so that as part of the 'self help' element, crucial in all aspects of stress reduction, they can then seek more instruction in the areas which they have identified as most useful to them.
In The Driving Seat: Stress, goals and long term change.
Stress Workshop (2)
A one day workshop aimed at recognising stress and the changes we need to make in order to permanently reduce the level of stress in all aspects of our lives.
As companion to Workshop 1, In The Driving Seat may be used as a stand alone session for those wishing to permanently reduce the amount of stress in their lives, or as an adjunct to the stress management content of Lightening The Load.
Used to compliment Lightening The Load, this workshop provides a second day in which the group can build on information already gained, looking more closely at their lives, clarifying knowledge of individual stressors and most importantly, exploring pathways toward change in order to eradicate or significantly reduce stress.
As a stand alone workshop, In The Driving Seat equips individuals to identify their stress levels and explores various techniques of stress management. However, its main emphasis is in assisting individuals to:
- identify major stressors in their lives
- identify options for change
- identify the pathways which will facilitate those changes.
Again, it is important to note that although much can be achieved within a one day workshop, the time constraints are such that to explore individual issues in any depth would be not only difficult but unsafe. To this end the intention is to provide only a basic concept and path for change whilst encouraging individuals to take responsibility for themselves in seeking further instruction, guidance and support as necessary. Information outlining some of the options available will be provided.
